American Holiday Traditions and Life as a Middle Schooler Hey there! My name is Timmy and I'm a 5th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. Today I'm going to tell you all about some of the fun American holidays we celebrate and what life is like for me as a middle school student. Get ready for an exciting ride!
Let's start with the holidays because those are my favorite times of year. One of the biggest is Christmas on December 25th. A few weeks before, we decorate a huge tree with lights and ornaments. On Christmas Eve, we leave out milk and cookies for Santa Claus who delivers presents overnight for good boys and girls. On Christmas morning, we wake up super early to open our gifts! My favorite part is getting new video games and toys. After presents, we have a big dinner with roast turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pie for dessert. Yum!
Another holiday I love is Halloween on October 31st. We get to dress up in costumes like superheroes, monsters, or anything we want! Then we go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, knocking on doors and saying \"Trick or treat!\" People give us lots of candy like chocolate bars, gummies, and lollipops. At school,
we have a big Halloween party and parade where we show off our costumes. It's a blast!
Independence Day on July 4th is the holiday that celebrates when America became an independent nation. There are fireworks shows, barbecues, and parades with marching bands and flags. We wave American flags, eat hot dogs and
hamburgers, and the day ends with awesome fireworks lighting up the sky. It's really patriotic and fun!
Thanksgiving is a big food holiday in November. The whole family gets together for a huge turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. We go around the table saying what we're thankful for. I'm always thankful for my family, friends, video games, and dessert! After dinner, we might watch football games on TV.
Now let me tell you about being a middle school student. My days start pretty early around 7am. I get dressed, have a quick breakfast like cereal or a Pop-Tart, and catch the bus to school. The first class of the day is usually math or
reading/writing. Those are two of my favorite subjects! Math is fun because I like working with numbers and solving problems. Reading and writing are cool too because I get to learn about new topics and be creative.
In the middle of the day, we have lunch and recess which is the best part! I get to hang out with my friends, eat the hot lunch or whatever snacks I brought, and play games outside on the playground or kickball on the field. My friend group is me, Zach, Emma, Jayden, and Sophia. We've been besties since 1st grade! After lunch, we have more classes like science, social studies, art, or P.E. Science is interesting because we get to do experiments and learn about how things work. Social studies teaches us about history and different cultures around the world. In art class, we work on fun projects like painting, drawing, or making clay sculptures. P.E. is when we play sports and stay active which gives us a break from sitting at desks all day. Once the final bell rings around 3pm, I either get picked up by my mom or take the bus home. At home, I'll have a snack like fruit or pretzels while I do my homework for an hour or so. Math and reading assignments mainly. Once that's done, I'm free to play video games, watch TV and YouTube, or hang out with friends who live nearby. We'll ride bikes, play basketball at the park, or just goof around outside.
Dinnertime is usually around 6 or 7pm. After dinner, I take a shower and then it's time for bed by 9pm since I'm still a kid. I'll read for a bit, maybe some comic books or a novel, and then it's
lights out! That's a typical day for me as an 11-year-old middle schooler. Some days we have sports practices, clubs, or special events at school which switches things up. But most days follow that general schedule.
There you have it - the major holidays we celebrate here in America and what life is like for a middle school student like me. Lots of learning, playing, family time, sugary treats, and fun traditions! Being a kid is awesome and I'll soak it up while I still can before becoming a stressful teenager. Thanks for reading, catch you later!
