In Western culture white represents goodness and purity, while in Asian cultures, white is connected with funerals (葬礼) and sadness.
In China, red is the colour of good luck. When the Chinese give gifts of money on special days, they usually put the money in a red packet.Chinese brides (新娘) aren’t dressed in white. They wear bright red wedding dresses. On the other hand, in the Western world, red represents danger, which is why warning signs and road signs are often red.
In the past, the Cherokee Indians of North America used to show directions with colours. That is, blue represented north, white represented south, red represented east and black represented west. These four colours had other meanings too. Blue meant failure, white meant happiness, red meant success and black meant death. The Cherokees also used red beads (珠子) to represent good health.

As soon as Ryan Marcelo turns on his computer, time seems to stop. After starting playing his favourite game, his eyes fixed on the characters on the screen. “I play every day, sometimes for more than four hours,” Ryan, a 14-year-old Canadian boy, said, “When I finish playing, my eyes are heavy and I just feel really tired.”
A familiar(熟悉的) story? In families with children and computers, there’s a good chance of meeting children like Ryan, who spend too much time in front of their computers. And these children are starting to feel pains as a result of long-time computer use.
“What we’re seeing is that children’s levels of computer-related (由电脑引起的) discomfort are close to adults,” said Ms. Fraser, an engineer. “They’re reporting that they

have problems with their eyes, and that they’re feeling discomfort in their necks, backs and in their hands, arms and wrists.”
A research report show show computing has become an everyday part of life for Canadian children. Nearly 40%of children aged 4 to 11 have their own computers, and more than 20% have mobile phones. They use them to send messages to friends too often.
But is the growing use of technology among children the main reason for computer-related health problems? Although there is little research in this area, the few studies suggest that such problems are quite common among children and teens. The researchers studied students aged 10 to 17 with laptop programmes. They found that about 60% said they felt uncomfortable, mostly in the neck and shoulder areas.
Part of the problem is that many of today’s computer games aren’t specially designed for children’s hands. Also most keyboards and computer mouses are too big for them. When children use the computer, they’re usually sitting in an adult-sized chair facing an adult-sized desk. And they need to take breaks—once every 20 minutes—where they get up for at least two minutes and walk.
31.The example of Ryan Marcelo in Paragraph 1 is to _____________.
A.give some details C.make a comparison
B.draw a conclusion D.introduce the topic
32.What does the underlined word “discomfort” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.A feeling of pain. C.A feeling of excitement. 33.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Both adults and children are feeling computer-related discomfort. B.Most people have problems with their eyes, ears, necks and hands. C.Half of the Canadian children have computers and mobile phones. D.Canadian children watch short videos on mobile phones too often. 34.What is the main reason for children’s computer-related health problems?
A.Adult-sized chairs and desks.
B.The growing use of technology. B.A feeling of sadness. D.A feeling of tiredness
C.Children’s favourite computer games. D.Big keyboards and computer mouses. 35.What may be the best title of the text?

Xinjiang Uygur Muqam Art.”
Xinjiang Uygur Muqam mixes songs, dances and folk and classical music. Of these, the Twelve Muqam is known by the most people, with the largest spreading area and the most complete structure (结构).
In the thousands of years of its history, the Uygur Muqam had been passed on by word of mouth which made it difficult to be completely remembered. By the 1940s, there were very few folk artists who could sing the whole Twelve Muqam, and the art form had been brought to the danger of being lost. Government-organized protection work started in 1950. In 1951, Wan Tongshu and his wife went to Xinjiang to help with the collection of Twelve Muqam, and published the collection “Twelve Muqam”. The collection was helpful for the following research and spread. Over the years, experts and scholars (专家学者) have tried hard to protect Xinjiang Uygur Muqam together with local folk artists.
For its cultural value, Xinjiang Uygur Muqam art was included as one of UNESCO’s Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (人类口头和非物质遗产代表作) in 2005, and was listed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
