Japan has made 5,000 medals(奖牌) for the winners of the 2020 Summer Olympics. But these Olympic medals are more special than most—they are made completely out of recycled electronics.
The organizers of the Tokyo Olympics tried to avoid using too many natural resources(资源), so that the games are friendly to the environment. To achieve this goal, the organizers decided to make all of the Olympic medals out of metal recycled from old electronics. They needed gold for first place medals, silver for second, and bronze(青铜) for third.
Collecting enough of these metals to make 5,000 medals was a huge challenge. That’s because each device(装置) has only a little metal. It would take about 20,000 cell phones to get just 2.2 pounds of gold.
But the event turned out to be a big success. The project began in April, 2017. The organizers placed collection boxes around the country, and asked people to turn in their old electronic devices for the Olympic medals. At first, collection went slowly, but soon more and more people began to turn in electronics. At last, they collected 6.21 million used cell phones. In all, around 158,000,000 pounds of electronics were collected. By the end of March, 2019, the organizers had collected around 67 pounds of gold, 9,000 pounds of silver and 4,850 pounds of bronze from those electronics.
We all should learn something from the event. It not only offers everyone a chance to do something for the Olympics, but also teaches people the importance of protecting the environment. 1题完成句子;2、3题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下第四段的主题句;5题将文中画线句子译成汉语。 1.The medals for the winners in 2020 Summer Olympics are made from . 2.How many pounds of gold did the organizers collect at last?
