Most 5-year-olds are just learning their ABCs but one little girl from the UK has actually written a book that was published in January 2022. Bella-Jay Dark from Weymouth, is the world’s youngest female to be published and was awarded the title by Guinness World Records (吉尼斯世界纪录). Her book, The Lost Cat tells the story of Snowy, a cat who got lost after going outside alone at night. She hopes the book will teach children not to go outside at night alone.
While many adult writers find inspiration for their books from life experiences, Bella’s creative vision actually came from one of her drawings. “It started off as a picture. My daddy said I could make a book and a story came from the picture,” Bella said.
Her mom, Chelsie Syme, was surprised that the book turned out as well as it did. “I am just really proud of her; I did not think it was going to go this far so I’m just proud and want to see her get the acknowledgement she deserves.”
But how do you get a child’s homemade book published? According to Syme, they took Bella’s book to a book fair and found a publisher willing to take a chance on it. Syme helped Bella with proofing copies (校对本) and making necessary changes. To earn the Guinness World Record title of The World’s Youngest Published Author, female, the book has to be published by a commercial publishing house and have at least 1000 copies printed and sold. Bella’s book met the criteria, so she was awarded the title.
Besides being an accomplished author, Bella is just a regular kid who enjoys reading, swimming, and playing on her tablet. In her free time, she is currently working on a sequel (续篇) to Snowy’s story. Who knows what pearls of wisdom will come next? 24. Who is Snowy? A. A lost child.

27. What can we infer about Bella? A. Her father is a painter. B. Her mother is strict with her.

The world is drowning in plastic waste. The huge piles in landfill sites are growing fast. Therefore, it is most urgent to move away from the traditional linear economic model and change to a fully circular economy. To help this transformation, Igus, a Germany-based manufacturer of high-performance plastics, has been developing and investing in the work of recycling plastics for many years. The company is now showing the world a new product, the “igus: bike”, which is the world’s first urban bike produced almost entirely from recycled polymer (聚合物) .
Igus CEO Frank Blasé first got the idea while vacationing on a Florida beach. A conversation with employees at a rental company made him aware of the challenges of maintaining beach bicycles. The continuous exposure to sand, wind, and saltwater caused the bikes to rust (生锈) rapidly. Many had to be replaced in as little as three months. The igus: bike is zero maintenance and rust-free. It can be left outdoors in all weather and does not require lubricant oil to reduce friction between parts. Since it does not attract sand, dust, or dirt, the bike can be cleaned with a garden hose in seconds.
The igus: bike will also help relieve the world’s plastic pollution problems. The company says a single adult bike gives new life to about 35 pounds of single-use plastic that would otherwise block our landfills or waterways. For example, the first prototypes were made of material from old fishing nets. Currently, 90% of the igus: bike is made using plastic. Igus believes future versions will be made entirely from plastic.
The plastic bikes are expected to come to market in early 2023. An adult model, made entirely from recycled plastic, will cost about $1430. A slightly cheaper version made using new plastic is also in the works. Igus also plans on sharing its technology with other bicycle manufacturers. “We want to enable the bicycle industry to produce plastic bikes,” says Blasé. 28. Which statement is true about Igus? A. It developed popular bikes in Germany. B. It is devoted to recycling plastic waste.
C. It follows the model of a traditional linear economy. D. It appeals to companies to invest in the bicycle industry. 29. What highlights the Igus: bike according to paragraph 2? A. It is safer to ride. C. It is easier to maintain. A. Its huge market.
B. It will not rust rapidly.
D. It consumes less energy to produce. B. Its complex design.
30. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the Igus-bike?
C. Its multiple versions.
31. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a newly invented plastic bicycle. B. To stress the importance of technological innovation.
D. Its environmental value.
C. To raise people’s awareness of environmental protection. D. To provide some advice on how to produce a new kind of bike.

There’s a new AI bot: ChatGPT, and you’d better pay attention, even if you aren’t into artificial intelligence. The tool is an AI chatbot system that OpenAI released in November 2022 to show off and test what a very large, powerful AI system can achieve.
ChatGPT remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to inform its next responses. It derives its answers from huge volumes of information on the Internet. ChatGPT is built on top of the OpenAI GPT-3 family of large language models and is fine-tuned (a method of transfer learning) using both supervised and reinforcement learning (监督和强化学习).
You can ask ChatGPT anything, like explaining physics, asking for birthday party ideas and getting programming help. Perhaps it’s not smart enough to replace all humans yet, but it can be creative, and its answers can sound downright authoritative. A few days after its launch, more than 1 million people were trying out ChatGPT. UBS analyst Lloyd Walmsley estimated in February 2023 that ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly users in January, accomplishing in 2 months what took TikTok about 9 months and Instagram two and a half years.
ChatGPT is free to use at the moment because it is still in its research phase. But when too many people hop onto the server, it overloads and can’t process your request. It just means you should try visiting the site at a later time when fewer people are trying to access it. If you want to skip the wait and have reliable access, there is an option for you. As of Feb. 1, 2023, OpenAI has aChatGPT pro plan, ChatGPT Plus, which allows users to have general access even during peak times. This service does come at a cost of $20/month.
However, ChatGPT can not replace Google. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence robot that provides solutions to your questions, but Google is a search engine in which you can search for as much information as possible. ChatGPT has limited knowledge due to its programming but Google has unlimited knowledge which is updated every day. 32. What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about ChatGPT? A. Its working theory. C. Its design inspiration.
33. Why does the author list figures in paragraph 3? A. To show the popularity of ChatGPT. B. To stress the high cost of inventing ChatGPT. C. To present the creativity of artificial intelligence.
D. To prove the necessity of developing tools for chatting online.
B. Its language model. D. Its development process.
34. What is ChatGPT Plus intended for? A. Guiding users to experience free services. B. Giving users priority access during peak hours C. Allowing net surfers to skip advertisements. D. Helping researchers detect the failure of the system. 35. What is a limitation of ChatGPT compared with Google? A. It may provide replies unrelated to the questions. B. It can only update information at a fixed time C. It needs longer to provide solutions. D. It operates based on limited data.

A cool day evening during the Depression, Bruce, a boy of 12, saw a beautiful handbag in a shop. The price of it was 6 dollars, which was unaffordable for him. It could support his family for a week.
Bruce couldn’t ask his parents for the money, for there was no spare money they could save under the terrible economic situation.
Hesitantly, he opened the door of the shop and entered it. Standing in his shabby coat and worn-out shoes, he whispered to the shopkeeper what he wanted. In a flash, he added firmly, I don’t have enough money now, but can you hold it for three weeks? I am sure to afford it then as a gift for my mother for the coming Women’ Day.
“I will try,” the shopkeeper smiled. “People here don’t usually have that kind of money to spend on things. I could keep it for you. Bruce bowed to the shopkeeper with a clear expression of gratitude and walked out confidently. He was bound to raise enough money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mom would get a surprise. On turning the corner, he heard the sound of hammering used nail bags. Then a good idea struck him that he could raise money by selling the used bags. People built their own houses, using nail bought in bags from a local factory.
