Class 34(2) A drycleaning apparatus comprises a wash drum 1 rotating on a shaft 2 within a housing 3.After the washing cycle is complete and excess solvent has been evacuated, drying air isforced into the drum 1 through pipe 5 and perforations 11 in the periphery of the drum.From pipe 5 there is branched a pipe 6 which is of equal cross-section to pipe 5 at thepoint of branching, but which tapers considerably, thereby increasing the speed of flowof the air issuing through bore 10. Annular member 11 mounted on the drum is providedwith annular ridge 13 which extends somewhat into the drum to assist the tumbling ofthe articles, and also slots 12 through which the air issuing from pipe 6 passes; the streamof air strikes coniform surface 81 of door 8, which encloses window 9, and is axiallydeflected thereby into drum 1 through opening 111. This axial blast of air aids the dryingof the articles by causing them to be turned over as well as tumbled, and minimizesdamage caused by the accumulation of the articles in the region of the door. The cross-section of exit pipe 15 is wider than that of pipes 5 and 6 together, so that a slightvacuum is created in the drum which assists drying. If preferred, pipes 5 and 6 may besupplied with air impelled by separate blowers.
