摘要：An e-mail system comprising a memory and an e-mail processing element is aprovided. The memory stores e-mail having associated metadata that represents a state

of processing of the e-mail. The e-mail processing element reads the e-mail anddetermines a next action for delivery of the e-mail based on the metadata. A systemcomprising a storage unit and a processor is provided. The storage units stores amessages to be electronically sent. The messages include a metadata describinginformation about the messages. The storage unit includes local storage that stores afirst amount of information, less than said first amount of information, describing non-imminent messages. The storage unit also includes remote storage storing additionalinformation about the messages. The processor is operated to determine informationabout each message, and manage an amount of information about the messages that arestored locally.
