(2017·江西南昌模拟测试)
When people introduce themselves, I always hear them say “I'm
just a housewife”. I don't understand why their introduction is always
filled with regret and self-pity. Is it really a crime to be a housewife?
Is it really embarrassing when you choose not to work outside and instead
choose to work in your home?
How could you be “just a housewife” when the basic social unit
of society depends on you and your service? A housewife works for the
longest hour, supporting your husband, child's studies, caring for
elders, managing finances, paying bills, grocery shopping, cooking
according to individual taste, cleaning, etc. A housewife could be anyone:
daughter, wife, mother, teacher, financial advisor, fashion designer and nurse, gardener, driver, cook, and so on. Don't think you are not being paid for it. You get the reward that no money can offer—the love and affection of your family, their trust in you, a happy home and your own satisfaction.
It is you who choose to be in this occupation, willingly or for any other reason. After a busy day, all wait to return to the comfortable home set by you. They know you will be there to absorb all their stress and tiredness and relax them. Would the life have been the same had you been working outside to earn some money? Would you along with your family have been able to buy all the content in life that you are enjoying now with that money?
Respect yourself for what you are. Introduce yourself to the world with the same dignity. The world understands the importance of your
job; it's time to make them accept it. Introduce yourself with pride and with twinkle in your eyes “I am a housewife”. Kick that “just” out.
1.How people feel when they say “I'm just a housewife”? A. Satisfied. B. Proud. C. Regretful. D. Anxious.
2.Listing the housewife's duties, the author implies a housewife ________.
A. usually leads a terrible life B. plays a more important role C. does not always get her reward
D. makes a great contribution to the family
3.If a housewife worked outside, she would ________. A. have the same life like before
B. set a comfortable home for her family C. absorb her family's stress
D. lose the content that she is enjoying
4.What is the author's attitude toward housewives? A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Opposed. D. Tolerant. B
Death Valley National Park is the hottest and driest place in
North America and it holds a world record for the hottest temperature ever recorded. It's also the lowest place in North America, which is about 282 feet below sea level. It is called Badwater Basin.
Every spring, some wildflowers do bloom (开花)before it gets
extremely hot but the abundance of flowers this year is unusual and
happens about once nearly every decade.
Death Valley's average annual rainfall is 2 inches a year. Sometimes, it gets no rain at all. The park got three very rare rainstorms in the first two weeks of last October that left behind more than 3 inches of rain in some parts of the valley. That was enough to promote the growth of millions of wildflower seeds that have been buried in the earth waiting for significant rainfall.
No one knows how long seeds can wait for rain, but the rain in 2005 led to the blossoming of some flowers that had never been seen before in the park—showing their seeds had been dormant for many years.
The most eyecatching wildflower is the desert gold, who are easily enjoyed from the car. Patient sightseers who get out of their cars can see many more species. More than 20 species of wildflowers bloom in the park at various places.
Right now, the best flower show is at the south end of Death Valley National Park along Badwater Road. As the temperature rises, those flowers will fade. The bloom will move north and to higher places. The show won't last forever. Most of the flowers will wither in the next few weeks as temperatures start to heat up. Some flowers may still be
around as late as June at higher places. But those won't be easy to see from a car and could require hiking.
5.What is special about the flowers in Death Valley? A. They have come out earlier. B. They get no rain.
C. They come out in a big size. D. They grow in the lower place.
6.Why does the author mention Paragraph 3?
A. To convince us that Death Valley is full of life. B. To introduce the influence of natural phenomena.
C. To explain his concern about the rainfall in Death Valley. D. To find out the reason for the unusual condition of the flowers. 7.The underlined word “dormant” in Paragraph 4 probably means “________”.
A. inactive B. useless C. energetic D. lifeless 8.What is implied in the last two paragraphs?
A. Sightseers should plan their trip to the flower show early. B. People should hike to Death Valley instead of driving a car. C. Several special flowers will be seen in lower places as the weather
becomes hot.
D. Many flowers will become well-known to sightseers in June. Ⅱ.七选五
(2016·沈阳三测)Most of us will have days or weeks when we can't make
as many things as we'd like. We have jobs, families and busy lives, which means occasionally you'll be out of time to sit down and make art.
Here are some simple tips that can help your creative work. 1. __1__
If you want to think more about your artwork, read about it just
before you fall asleep. Studies show that your brain remembers more and thinks subconsciously (下意识地) about the information you process just before going into REM(rapid eyes movement) sleep. __2__. You might even dream about what you were thinking about or were doing just before sleep. If you're reading a book on creativity you really want to digest, this is a great trick to help your own creative process.
2. Use commute (通勤) time
__3__. Read, listen, think, make lists, or mentally check off your progress. Using commute time means that when you do sit down to
create work, you've often done the heavy thinking and are ready to dive into the practical work. It is an obvious one, but it's been tried and tested.
3. Don't overlook thinking time
When you're not making artworks, make time to simply think.
It seems like many artworks are made after months or even years of living inside your own head. __4__, using this time to think hard about your artwork can pay off greatly. You can often surprise yourself with how much progress you can make if you clock the thinking hours. Realizing that this was a “thing” was one of the most helpful lessons I learned
as an artist. Thinking time is time well spent. __5__.
A. Read before you fall asleep
B. You might dream about what you read C. Make conversations about your artwork
D. Try some of these ideas out and see what works for you E. Whether you're at work, walking pets, or doing the dishes F. Use the time you're driving or on the train to and from work G. Some tricks you could try are making lists of future or potential
artworks
