At present, we cannot ignore the worried fact that some western festivals have flowed into China and even posed a threat to the preservation of our traditional festivals.
Recent years, more and more people focus on celebrating foreign festivals crazily. Clearly, plenty of promoting activities are designed to create a lively atmosphere to prepare for a merry Christmas day. In Christmas Eve, children hang stockings beside beds, decorate Christmas trees with whole family, tired but excited. Besides, when the Valentine’s Day approaches, the young tend to lost an arm and a leg to buy luxurious presents to express the love .And in Single Day, thousand millions of people follow the trend of 50% discount sale shopping blindly.
According to some statistics, the popularity of western festivals, to some extant, have beyond Chinese traditional festivals such as Tanabata Festival, Dragon Boat Festival.
Its high time gave some serious reflection to this phenomenon .Why the western festivals were accepted so quickly and generally by Chinese people?
As far as I’m concerned, there are at least three points account for this. Firstly, China is inevitably to getting more involved in economic globalization, as a result, Chinese are exposed to western knowledge and culture. Secondly, western festivals attract Chinese with its unique characteristics. Compared with our traditional style, it’s rather interesting, fresh and irritate. These foreign festivals celebrities offer a reasonable chance to people who suffer from working pressures
to relax. Finally, it has been regarded as a mark of fashion, which satisfies various needs from public and caters to young’s psychology exactly.
This issue, in essence, is about culture inheritance. It’s unwise to indulge ourselves so much in observing western festivals that loose traditional values and respect of historical heritage.
